In light of growing concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic and the impacts on international travel we have decided to postpone the 23rd KSHV conference to June of 2021.

We will be contacting current registrants to refund the registration fee, and encourage participants to cancel their hotel bookings promptly.

Flight booking

Flight prices vary dramatically and tend to go up after February. We suggest you book airfare in January or February. There are a number of airlines flying from European, Middle Eastern and African countries directly to Dar es Salaam. Please check with your travel agent.

 

Hotel Arrangements

The conference will be held at the White Sands Hotel, Dar es Salaam.

We have a limited number of rooms held at White Sands under the discounted conference rates of $110/night for single rooms or $135/night for double occupancy. Conference rooms include breakfast and WiFi.

We recommend that you book your hotel room early to take advantage of the conference rate. Please note that the hotel has agreed to hold this block of rooms for our attendees at the conference rate until March 15th, and the rate may go up after that.

Visa Requirements

A tourist visa is required for entry into Tanzania. It is recommended that travelers to Tanzania secure visas in advance of planned travel.

Transportation while in Tanzania

We will arrange shuttle service between the Julius Nyerere International Airport and the White Sands Hotel. Please forward a copy of your flight itinerary to Danielle at [email protected] to facilitate our airport shuttle. You may submit your flight details with your registration or email them to us by June 12th. Please put “KSHV 2020 flight info” in the subject line. There will be a conference representative in the arrival area to greet conference attendees after clearing customs.

 

Vaccinations

Yellow cards are required for travelers coming from regions endemic for Yellow Fever. For vaccination recommendations, please see information provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the Tanzanian embassy:

Currency Exchange

Currency exchange in Tanzania is limited to bank locations and there are none easily accessible from the conference venue. If you plan to exchange currency you should do this at the airport before going to White Sands. The airport currency exchange is open 24-hours. Once you leave the airport it will be difficult to exchange currency.

You might anticipate expenses for drinks, incidentals or souvenirs. The exchange rate is roughly $1 USD: 2300 TSH.

All lunches and dinners are included in the conference registration beginning with lunch on the 22nd through lunch on the 26th; breakfast is included in your room reservation at White Sands hotel.

Excursions and hotel expenses can be paid by credit card.

There is no formal dress code for the conference or dinners.
